Christmas 2011

Christmas is like a yearly wedding....months (or in Big TK's case....days) preparing, only for it to be over in one evening.

This year was no different.

The Hummer's, the Casio's and the Kopp's celebrated with way too much food, lots of great gifts and that whole family thing that makes the holidays special.

Winter Sports

Kels is playing 8th grade basketball for her school. Lil' TK is wrestling for West....He's been moved to JV and Varsity (depending on where he's needed for his weight class). Here are some pics Ang took while cheering them on....

Lil' TK rocks...

Lil’ TK decided to forego basketball this year and try wrestling instead. He’s been attending weightlifting and open mat sessions at the high school since last spring to get into better shape and start the learning process of a sport he has never attempted before. He has developed another passion from this preparation….weightlifting and fitness, even suggesting that he might start training for the 10K version of the Mankato Marathon next year.

Last night was the first wrestling meet for the DMMS 7th and 8th grade Scarlets. They traveled to Faribault where they lost the meet by 2 wins. But the final score didn’t matter. Because Lil’ TK won his first match 9-1. His very first match as a wrestler and he won. Big TK and Ang are so proud of him. Not because he won, but because he did his best and he succeeded. He took on a totally alien concept – wrestling – and he succeeded. All his hard work and self discipline paid off. How many 13 year olds would plan time to work out, give up soda and watch their diet? Especially for a sport they know very little about? Even if he hadn’t won that first match (and he did lose his 2nd match 8-1), he came home so excited about the upcoming season. He didn’t get pinned. He learned a ton. And he had fun. What parent wouldn’t be proud of that?

Good job Lil’ TK…you rock.

Celebrate Good Times....

The Kopp Crew celebrated their good friend's wedding in October. PK and M were married in a touching ceremony on a beautifulgorgeous day. Big TK sang several songs during the ceremony and was incredible...as usual! Ang, of course, had to try and get some photos...here's what she was able to capture.

Looking Sharp....

The Kopp Shack got a facelift! A hail storm in the summer of 2010 damaged the 19 year old roof and boring yellow siding that previously adorned the humble little abode. Due to the  number of homes damaged in the area, it took a year to get the siders and roofers scheduled. Still waiting on the new down spouts but here's how the shack we call home looks so far. Will be painting the door white and already have some cool new lighting on order that will really dress up the place. Everyone loves the color and it really perked up our part of the block.

Fall Sports Conclude

Kels finished up the school volleyball season with a win. At the end-of-the-season party, she earned the "Best Server" award as well. Some games, Kels "batted 1000" serving. She not only had a great season and  lot of fun, but she was a leader on the court as she took command of multiple positions.

Lil' TK and the West White 8th Grade Football team went 8-0 on the season. The last game of the season was against the cross-town rivals but the Scarlets came away with not only the win but a shut out as well. Lil' TK also had a great season, really growing as a player and a leader on the field.


The Kopp Shack is FINALLY getting new siding. It's a big mess right now but soon will be a beautiful dark blue...just in time for winter!

Football

Lil' TK had a game on Tuesday at the high school football field. He is quarterback on offense and cornerback on defense. It was a great game...the boys all worked and played really well together.

The Scarlets White Team won 42-22. Lil' TK had 2 TD passes and several "beastly" plays on both offense and defense. Ang and Big TK had a great time watching and are looking forward to another 5 years of cheering on Lil' TK from the Todnem Field sidelines. Go Scarlets!

Volleyball Champs!

Kels and the DMMS/West 8th Grade "A1" volleyball team took first at their tournament on Saturday. The team was disciplined, focused and well coached....not losing a match the whole day. Congrats Scarlets!

8th Grade and Fall sports have begun for Lil' TK and Kels. 

Lil' TK's first game was derailed by the opponents cranky bus, which broke down about 10 miles outside of North Mankato. So, instead of an actual game, the teams scrimmaged once the Belle Plaine team was able to get picked up by a replacement bus and get to the Dakota Meadows field. Lil' TK is one of the quarterbacks on offense and plays corner back on defense. He threw a couple of touchdowns and intercepted a pass while on defense. The weather was perfect for sitting outdoors, enjoying a little football. 

Kels had to travel to Minnesota Lake to play Maple River for her first match. Kels and her buddy, Lex, were able to make the top squad on the A team for 8th grade and has really found her love for volleyball. Her softball pitching seems to have helped her serving as she went 17 for 17. Her hard work to get healthy has helped her discover her vertical and was surprised to learn she could play the hitter position as well. Ang and Big TK wished they could have been there to watch her but with both kiddos in sports it's easier to stay and watch the home games and let the kids ride with their team to the out of town ones.

Growing

Lil’ TK has never been much of a swimmer. A couple of scary incidents in the water when he was much younger left him with a bad taste in his mouth for the whole swimming thing. But going to his friend’s lake home over the past couple of summers  and the closer he gets to high school and swimming as a section in phy-ed class has made him want to work on it. This summer at the local pool, he’s started jumping off the diving boards and swimming to the ledge. And then these pictures from his latest vacation to the lake show up on his Facebook page. Not only is Lil’ TK growing up physically….he’s growing as a person.

A Day at the Park

Big TK, Ang and the Casio Crew hung out together during Independence weekend a couple different times. On July 1st, they went to Westwood for supper. Ang had never been there and it was a beautiful night to enjoy a good meal with good friends outdoors

A couple of days later...Ang and KC went to Sibley Park for a small picnic and to check out the new animal barns. And take a few pics....
