Winter Sports 2012-2013

Lil' TK started wrestling for the Scarlets. He's been mainly on the JV team but moves up to Varsity when needed. He had a great tournament in Redwood Falls going 4-1 and is really enjoying the season.

Ang has been taking a lot of photos at the wrestling meets. There are some meets it seems she takes more pics of the rest of the team than of Lil' TK! But the all the boys appreciate the photos so Ang will just keep snappin' away and try her best to focus on her own child.

Fa La La La La...

Lil' TK sang in his school holiday concert this month. He is a member of the "Scarlet Choir" as a baritone. It was nice to see the big tough wrestler in a tie singing holiday music.

Scarlets Volleyball 2012

Kels had a great first season playing high school volleyball for the West Scarlets. Starting out on the C-Squad and being named captain to moving up to B-Squad for the last week of the season. She did an awesome job being a captain and a leader for the team.

The girls in the circle is them doing their pre-game cheer "Kick Butt!"
Kels and Coach B
The cool pic of the girls in a circle with their hands outstretched was taken by B. Anderson. What a cool concept!

Scarlets Football 2012

The Freshman Scarlets finished 2012 football season with a 5-3 record. Lil' TK played wide receiver on offense and corner back on defense...most of the time playing both sides of the ball for the majority of the game.

Ang and Big TK had a great time cheering on their new high school football player.

No Rest For the Wicked...or the Kopps

Baseball and softball ended in July for Kels and Lil' TK, but August brought no down time as school sports ramped up with two-a-days for both kids.

First though, the Crew had a fun weekend visiting with Big TK's family from the northern iron range region. The weather cooperated perfectly. Even got to meet some new family members who now reside in California. Lots of kids, the annual bean bag tournament and of course, too much food. Ang and Tedna (aka "Team Hot Mamas") won the bean bag tournament. Never underestimate the power of a hot mama!

Kels had tryouts for West Volleyball. She was placed on the C-Squad's "Red" (A) team. She will be starting setter. She has a great serve too and will hopefully be perfecting that this season. The team won their first meet - which was scheduled before school even started. They met a tough Prior Lake team in their 2nd home meet and lost all matches. Kels is a captain on the team and is busy planning events with her co-captain "Hame".

Lil' TK worked through 2-3 hour practices in the summer heat for West Football. He was asked to play on Junior Varsity for a pre-season scrimmage but will be playing on the C-Squad team as well. He has been working on Corner Back, "Y" Wide Receiver (Ang has no idea what that means but all the WR's get a letter assigned - something about their routes?) and special teams as a punt returner. The C-Squad won their first game (away, of course - bummer!) 38-6. Ang and Big TK can't wait to watch their first home game the 2nd week in September.

Big TK is now working for his buddy, Bapper, at Factory Motor Parts. It seems to be going well, especially the weight loss part for him. Ang is still working away at The Occasions Group...19 1/2 years with Taylor Corp at this point. Looking forward to getting the 20 year gift catalog to pick from. They have gift certificates now. To Best Buy. New camera gear may be on the way!! Whoop whoop!

Curve Balls in Life

Lil' TK broke his nose. Well, the pitcher from the opposing team broke his nose. With a fastball straight to the schnoz. It was supposed to be a curve ball. The pitcher had been throwing a nasty curve ball for pitch #1 to every batter on the team. So far. This time, it didn't curve.

Ang thought it hit his helmet, from the sound of it. And from the way Lil' TK slapped at his helmet after the hit.

It didn't hit his helmet. That sound was the ball hitting Lil' TK on the left side of his nose...pushing it to the right. Only Lil' TK and the Umpire knew that though.

Everyone was kind of frozen. Until Kels yelled, "He's bleeding!"

Ang and Big TK have never moved so fast getting to the field.

Lil' TK never fell over, never passed out, never cried. He just did whatever all the frantic adults around him told him to do. Head back, head forward, relax, breathe, walk over here....etc.

5 hrs in the Regions Hospital ER. 2 hours home. Including a stop at Wendy's for a starving young man...with a broken nose.

He broke down for a moment in the ER...from all the stress and frustration, poking and prodding. Even in that moment, though, Lil' TK was strong. And brave.

Cousin JR was at the game as well. He was amazing helping get Lil' TK into the van and then the ER...never complaining. Supporting his younger cousin as best he could.

Kels accepted the 2nd place trophy from the game for her brother. The team moms took care of the twin sister who couldn't bear to go to the ER and see her brother in that condition. The pitcher's mom found Kels and got the address for the Shack...as she wiped away tears and wished Lil' TK the best.

3 days later...the good ENT doctor fixed Lil' TK's nose - moving it back to where it belongs.

The team that had watched their team-mate take a fastball to the face, signed a baseball and created a poster to put up in the recovery room. Lil' TK woke up from the procedure alert and bright eyed ("It was the best nap ever!")...and so thankful for his team and Nurse Sandy.

And then Ang and Big TK sent Lil' TK off to his buddy's lake home for 5 days to rest, relax and recoup. Just as thankful for good friends (The Marsh Crew) who love the crooked nosed kid just as much.

There's no place like home...

It's home tournament weekend here in Katoland. Lil' TK and the Royals 14AAA team will get to play a game on Saturday at 1pm at "The Frank" - the stadium where the Mankato MoonDogs Northwoods League team plays. It will be so exciting to watch the boys play on the "big" field. http://www.mankatomoondogs.com/frank.php

The Peppers are having their "Summer Sizzler" tournament this weekend as well at the beautiful Caswell Park. Kels and the 14U Blue team don't have to play until Saturday evening...playing their last game of the day under the lights.

Ang, of course, is hoping to get some great pics of both games as this is a first for both kids. "Baby" (Ang's camera) is going to be busy!
